# How to read a record — Retail food store inspections in New York State

> What the record is, what the status means, and what is left out.

## How to read these records

### The record

The Department of Agriculture and Markets inspects grocery stores, delis, bakeries, warehouses and food processors — not restaurants — and publishes the current grade of each with the deficiencies noted. This site gathers them into one record per store.

### Status

Inspected retail food establishment. An inspection describes one visit on one day; it is not a rating of the business today. The text of violations and the inspector's name are not shown. The file has no identifier: the record ID is made by this site from the name and address.

### What is not here

Individuals, and any name without a company word (Inc, LLC, Corp, Co…). Owner and contact names, phone numbers
and mailing addresses, which this site never downloads.

**For owners and managers: does
your company have 30 to 200 employees?**

AI labs pay companies to license their internal workflows (SOPs,
documentation, support tickets), anonymized and under contract. You keep ownership and pay nothing.

**Describe your company in 2 minutes →**
Offered by Registres, an independent data gateway. Not affiliated with New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
